Car Watch: The Beetle Convertible



Volkswagen and the Beetle are common synonyms with car enthusiasts and common folk alike. Owning a Beetle is to be a part of a legacy almost, and play a role in a long-standing history of elegantly sleek, highly admired and yet quietly powerful line of cars. The new Beetle Covertible comes in third in a line of Beetle developments by automotive giant Volkswagen. Following closely in the shadow of their hands-free parking technology is an all new Beetle boasting features that are ahead of its predecessors. A convertible soft top that retracts in under 10 seconds and tucks away flat and neat and and full-fledged four seat capacity with a 225 litre trunk make up the bulk of this vehicle special features, along with all safety measure in place. Combining the new with the old however, the design features headlights in classic round shapes, similar to what can be found on the original Beetle launched in 1949. The silhouette however, has taken a more youthful appeal by heading in a sporty direction. 



The new Beetle Convertible will be available with seven engine options. The entry-level engine is a highly efficient 1.2-liter TSI, delivering 77 kW/ 105 PS. Right from the launch, the BlueMotion Technology version of this gasoline engine will also be available. The other gasoline engines are the lively 1.4-liter TSI and the 2.0-liter version, producing 118 kW and 147 kW respectively. In the diesel area, Volkswagen is offering the tried and tested 1.6-liter TDI with 77 kW (including as a BMT version) and the 2.0- liter TDI, delivering 103 kW.


The new Volkswagen Beetle Convertible will make its world debut next month during the Los Angeles Auto Show. Consumers can expect it to be on sale here in Singapore from mid-2013 onwards. BW
